This slideshow was created in PowerPoint 2001. The narration was added using the Add Narration item in the SlideShow menu, and a QuickTime movie was created using the Make Movie item in the File menu.
Unfortunately, the resulting file was 19 Megabytes. Opening it in QuickTime Player and exporting it (Movie to QuickTime Movie) dropped this to under 1 Megabyte with little loss of quality.
- The audio was compressed using IMA 4:1 at 11 kHz mono--a good setting for voice.
- The video was compressed using the Animation codec, High quality (but not Best), and a frame rate of 0.3 (one frame every 3 seconds).
It would be more efficient to Copy a single frame from each slide, select the audio for that slide, Add Scaled, then delete the original video. That reduces the size to about 440 Kilobytes (ppslides2.mov). It's a bit of a hassle, of course, and unnecessary for local delivery, but worthwhile for Web delivery.
